Abstract
Reading thoroughly specialized journals helps to understand important aspects of the dynamics of scientific and academic fields, such as the degrees of institutionalization, differentiation and specialization, systems of interchange, etc. The quantity, quality and frequency of publishing of journals express, to a large extent, the relative power of different academic communities and their national and international influence. As part of an extensive analysis on knowledge production in education, developed between 2002 and 2004 at FLACSO (Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, Latin American School of Social Sciences), this article descriptively focuses on Argentine academic journals specialized in education during the nineties. Moreover, it presents facts and conclusions taken from the analysis of 17 journals referring exclusively to education and having a sort of scientificacademic peer-reviewed nature. The aspects taken into consideration are the following: a) production agencies; b) time references (time of issue, frequency and regularity of journals); c) regional delivery; d) structure of journal issues; e) authors and their relationship with the institution; and f) topics covered within each journal issue. At the end of the paper, there are a number of conclusions over the progress reached on educational material published during the last decade and on current difficulties that keep on being an obstacle to consolidate both quantity and diversity of communication methods specialized in Argentine education.
