Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is to contribute to the political and intellectual aspects of education in Latin America and the Caribbean in the period between 1976 and 1989. Through the analysis of political and pedagogic ideas the paper explores concepts, topics and issues that characterized the intellectual work of international organizations, a basic component of the intellectual field of education. The paper compares two critical projects developed by a group of international organizations for Latin America and the Caribbean: the UNESCO/ECLAC/UNDP Project, "Development and Education in Latin America and the Caribbean" (1976-1981), and the UNESCO Project, "Main Education Project for Latin America and the Caribbean" (1981-1989)
